Plumstead is almost entirely a suburb of the industrial town of Woolwich in the southeast of London. It is part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The riverside parish is between Woolwich and Erith. For many centuries its thousand or so inhabitants made a living from fishing and agriculture. The name Plumstead means “the place where the plums grow”. There was mention of Plumstead in the Doomsday Book and it was owned by the Bishop of Bayeaux. But now, it is very much a suburb of London where people commute to and from the city for work.
Described by some as ‘perfectly humdrum’, Plumstead is almost anti-London in many ways, as its houses and laundrettes remain untouched – without vegan cafes and vintage clothes shops on every corner. The high street perhaps leaves something to be desired, but the area has not enjoyed the regeneration funding that many others have.
Plumstead has several schools. Plumstead Manor School was a girls’ school but has been accepting both genders since September 2018. It was first established as Plumstead County School for Girls in 1913 and was later renamed Kings Warren Grammar School. It became a comprehensive school in 1967. There are a number of primary schools in Plumstead, like St. Patricks RC Primary School, Gallions Mount Primary School, Timbercroft Primary School, Bannockburn Primary School, Plumcroft Primary School, Greenslade Primary School and South Rise Primary School.
As for transportation, Plumstead railway station provides National Rail services to London Charing Cross via Lewisham, London Cannon Street via Greenwich, London Cannon Street via Bexleyheath, London Cannon Street via Sidcup, Kentish Town via Greenwich, Dartford, and Rainham. The area is also served by many bus routes provided by Transport for London. These connect Plumstead with other areas including Bexleyheath, Central London, Crystal Palace, Dartford, Eltham, Erith, Greenwich, Lewisham, New Cross, Orpington, Peckham, Sidcup, Thamesmead, Welling, and Woolwich.
Indeed, Plumstead is a lovely place with all the comforts that a suburb can offer. There are also several flower stores here, as Plumstead Flowers is very popular among the residents. You will often see people buying a bunch of flowers before heading home. Although there are many terraced houses here which are used by house workers at the local Arsenal, there is a lot of greenery and commons, Plumstead Common being the nicest and largest.
The people of Plumstead love their flowers and their gardening. Our Plumstead shop, Crimson Rose, strongly supports children and animal charities. We contribute over £100 between them every month. All of our tips are donated to these charities. We don’t keep any of the tips ourselves but donate them to these organisations. One of our most important charities in Crockenhill is Second Chance Animal Charity. You can find all these details on our Facebook page.
Our aim was, and still is, to bring great florist work at affordable prices. Our bouquets are made by expert florists from all over the world. Flowers are our passion and we hope to keep providing excellent services to our customers everywhere in the country.

I can’t praise this little shop enough. I have used it on both happy and sad occasions and have never been disappointed. The flowers are so fresh and last longer than I expected and the ladies in the shop are really kind and helpful. I wouldn’t go anywhere else and would recommend them to everyone. Thank you Crimson Rose.

Absolutely love this little florist! We don’t live in the UK so when we need to send flowers for anything- these are our go-to florist. We really appreciate the extra mile they went to (literally delivering outside their delivery zone!) for my mum in law’s birthday. The joy in her voice when she told us she had received the bouquet was beautiful- thank you so much! You are an amazing local business and we are proud to support you.
